73 years of freedom or 73 years yet to freedom?
73 years of freedom or 73 years yet to freedom?
Now that we are an independent nation, it’s time we thought,
73 years of freedom or 73 years yet to freedom?
While we lay a bed of roses, we forget,
That, beneath them, lie the graves of warriors.
Every breath of our liberated lives,
Is what we owe them, as long as our nation thrives.
“At the stroke of the midnight hour,
When the world sleeps,
India will awake to life and freedom”
The very first words of our independent nation,
Continue to echo, reminding us of our destination.
Are we awake? Are we aware?
Monsters disguised in the form of humans,
Killing mortals under the veil of honour.
Blood and lineage is all that matters,
While death and slaughter are just hidden chapters.
Are we awake? Are we aware?
Dreadful battles, and immense bloodshed,
Motives masked under the name of god.
Kith and kin or a complete stranger,
All fall prey to this monstrous danger.
Are we awake? Are we aware?
As shackles of patriarchy get stronger by each passing day,
Daughters of the nation, still run in pursuit of freedom.
Innumerable crimes and untold suffering,
When will they be free of this invisible smothering?
To wake up and arise is what we ought to do.
Our future deserves a better world,
A world beyond the fetters of class and caste.
A world full of empathy and humanity,
Where no one is devoid of opportunity and dignity.
To wake up and arise is what we ought to do.
Teach our future, to respect people,
Irrespective of the deity they worship.
Our only goal is to rebuild and create,
A world without differences and hate.
To wake up and arise is what we ought to do.
The future women should rise and fly,
Beyond the world where the sky is bright.
With dreams, wings and freedom of the wind,
They should soar high, without being pinned.
